Getting To Know Osteo Carly!

My name is Carly – this is a little bit about me!

I grew up in Swan Hill where I graduated from MacKillop college. Whilst at school I worked as an Austswim teacher. I was an active member of the Nyah Two Bays Swimming Club, representing the club at Country Victorian Championships multiple times. I played netball for Ultima and was captain of the U/17 premiership side.

After high school I moved to Melbourne to study a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne where I majored in Zoology. I participated in a random assortment of sports at college such as rowing, hockey and netball. After I graduated I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my degree and worked as a teachers aid at the Northern School for Autism.

My journey continued to Cambodia as a volunteer for a marine conservation project. Initially I went for 3 months but ended up being offered a job and stayed for 4 years. It was here that I fell in love with scuba diving and I became a PADI divemaster, working in the diving industry as well as working on the conservation project.

Whilst in Cambodia I couldn’t get enough of being under the water completing my Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver and Divemaster courses. My days would usually consist of guiding dives, and completing underwater surveys looking for seahorses.

I ended up leaving Cambodia because I thought it was time to re-join the real world but also because I slipped and broke my ankle on the dive boat. I came back to Australia for treatment and it was here that my osteopathy journey began. I returned to Melbourne and after trying multiple disciplines to get my ankle up and going again I decided that I liked the osteopathic approach and wanted to be an osteopath.

I applied to study at RMIT university and was accepted. After studying for 5 years and working at Coburg VFL club as a trainer, I decided that it was time to return to my roots and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being back home and have really enjoyed working again in the Swan Hill community.
