Getting To Know Osteo Lachie

My name is Lachlan – this is a little bit about me!

Originally a rural boy, I grew up in the small country town of Jerilderie in the Southern Riverina. From a young age I was involved in sport be it cricket, tennis or swimming with the majority of my time being spent with the Jerilderie Football Club where I won 3 junior premierships in 2010/11/12 and captained the U/17 team in 2013 to another grand final.

I was a farm boy who had big dreams of giving back to the community that raised me.

I studied at Finley High School and in my later years had an interest in the allied health field, in particular osteopathy. Once I graduated high school, I instantly picked up the books again with RMIT University Bundoora offering me a place in their osteopathy program in 2015.

During my time in Melbourne I played football for the Lalor Bloods in 2018/19, and put my hand up as a sports trainer for the club part-time. I worked as a lifeguard for the YMCA in Whittlesea, Mill Park and Thomastown throughout university, keeping the public safe.

In my fourth year of osteopathic studies I came across Louise as she introduced Osteo Sports Network to our profession, and the wider allied health sports medicine industry. I became involved as a student member, refining my skills and knowledge whilst also making vital connections for my future as an osteopath. This opened the pathway for volunteer work at a variety of sporting events which I thrived on.

At the beginning of 2019 I travelled to Japan for a month sampling the culture, food and overall atmosphere. Whilst abroad I travelled from Tokyo all the way to Kyoto seeing historical temples and shrines, the iconic Shibuya crossing, eating the freshest of fish from Kanazawa fish market and skiing the slopes of Shiga Kogen (which was my first time skiing).

I began my university years with an intention to always return to a regional area of Australia to work as an osteopath. I was raised by a rural community, and that timely local contribution made me the person I am today, with a yearning now to give my experience back to a similar community.

With friends and family being from the Swan Hill region, I had prior knowledge of the area, loving the welcoming community atmosphere. With my ties to rural living I jumped at the opportunity to join the Central Mallee Osteo team.

I am enjoying my time in Swan Hill and hope to become an integral part of the Swan Hill community, exampling that rural relocation is a great choice not only in lifestyle choice, but also in a career choice.
